New Reading Resources Available

You start reading a novel with your students. You teach a series of lessons on reading strategies and want your students to quickly identify and mark things they notice in the text. But, they can't write in the class set of books. If they take notes on a piece of paper, they will most likely lose it. And who can afford that many sticky-notes year after year?!

I have created a resource as a quick and simple solution. Annddd....the resource will be discounted for a limited time for all of you! Head over to my Teachers Pay Teachers store, Upper Elementary Made Simple, to find it.

The first is a set of bookmark cards for students to use when identifying text structures. They include description, compare/contrast, problem & solution, cause & effect, and sequence. The bookmarks are small enough that students can easily put them in their book as they read to mark text structures to refer back to later. As you read a text together, the students can hold up the card for the text structure they think is represented in the text. There are a variety of ways to utilize the resource. Click on the image below to access the text structure bookmarks.

In addition, I also have created a set of Notice and Note Signpost cards for the fiction signposts. There are 6 mini bookmarks that include an image and a question for students to ask themselves as they notice and note the signpost in their text. These can also be used individually by students in their own novel, or used whole group. Click the image below to access the signpost bookmarks.

I prefer to print each bookmark on different colored paper and laminate. Then, my students can also use dry erase markers to write additional notes and comments about the text structure or signposts they marked. So why choose these? They can be used year after year. If laminated they are write-on and durable all year long! And when color coded, they can be used in conjunction with colored highlighters to help students mark printed articles. You can cut down on the amount of paper you need in the classroom and avoid the never ending paper trail of small notes. Students are even more engaged with the quick, easy use of these bookmarks.
